About the exhibition of the unique Soviet graphic artist Alexander Petrovich Drozdov in the popular project "Art in private collections. Masters of Graphics"

The project is presented by the Union of Artists, "Ular" Gallery and the MPL Cultural Foundation.The exhibition will be held at the gallery halls from 1th of November to November 15, 2025, both offline and online.More than 40 artworks are on display.

Alexander Petrovich Drozdov was born on August 18, 1921 in the village of Ilovai — Rozhdestvenno, Pervomaisky district of the Tambov region. He studied at the Penza Art College from 1937 to 1940. From 1941 to 1945, he participated in the Great Patriotic War, which he completed as a battery commander with the rank of captain of the Guard. His front-line services were awarded the Order of the Great Patriotic War and degree, two Orders of the Red Star and eight medals. Member of the CPSU since 1942. Since 1965, he has lived and worked in Alma Ata. He became a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR in 1970. From 1977 to 1982, he was Executive Secretary of the Board of the Union of Artists of Kazakhstan. Participant of national, All-Union and foreign exhibitions. The works of A. P. Drozdov's works are kept in the State Museum of Art of the Kazakh SSR, the Directorate of Art Exhibitions of the Ministry of Culture of the Kazakh SSR, the Directorate of Art Exhibitions of the Union of Artists of the RSFSR, the Directorate of Art Exhibitions of the Union of Artists of the USSR, the Pavlodar Regional Museum of Soviet Fine Arts, the Tselinograd Regional Museum of Fine Arts, the Temirtaus Museum of Local Lore.

Alexander Petrovich Drozdov is one of the leading graphic artists in Kazakhstan. Having worked in Alma Ata for almost twenty years, he is an active participant in city, national, All-Union and foreign exhibitions. The artist's range of interests is stable and constant: these are wartime memories, industrial motifs, lyrical landscapes, still lifes, and more rarely portraits.  Such restraint in the choice of subject matter is explained by the very mindset of the author, who precisely defined his tasks and capabilities. His works are easily recognizable by the manner in which unhurried narrative is combined with a generalized vision, by the ability to reflect the scale of life phenomena in a chamber sheet, by the filigree decoration of the most characteristic details. For the creative laboratory of graphics, it is important to appeal to the memory of the heart, to the events and plots that have become factors in its inner life. After the war, which became a harsh school for the artist, the difficult process of realizing his place in art began. The graphics were powerfully attractive with their strict laconism of style, discreet beauty, and their ability to respond sensitively to the events of the time. His passion resulted in complete dedication to this art form. Sincerity, spontaneity of images, bright acceptance of life combined with sincere kindness and diligence ultimately give rise to the originality of A. P. Drozdov's work.

A technique close to the old graphics – the delicate watercolor coloring of a strict impression from an etching board – brings to the sheets of A. P. Drozdov that man–made and reverent, which give an individual and personal coloring to the images. In the last decade, the role of the lyrical landscape has noticeably increased in the artist's work, in which he has always found a fertile source of spiritual renewal. Penetrating into the peculiarities of the nature of the area allowed him to find that wise proportionality of the general and the particulars, which are sometimes hidden from the surface observer. In the very construction of the composition of the sheets, the properties that the author has captured in the natural landscape are already predetermined: he conquers the world of Kazakh nature with his melodious rhythms.
