Historical background: Al-Farabi Avenue, as before, is a major highway for vehicles traveling in the southern part of Almaty in the eastern and western directions. In connection with the construction of the Eastern Bypass Road, it was further penetrated in the eastern direction. Countless cars pass along the avenue every day. Al-Farabi is a vital artery of our city. From 2000 to the present, new cultural and business institutions have been appearing on the avenue, which adorn our beloved city, including the Almaty Museum of Arts Museum of Modern Art, which was opened in September. The avenue has become a place where pedestrian paths intersect, which are very popular among the citizens and tourists of our city. We are happy to observe the development of our city and this exhibition is our contribution to the popularization of new tourist destinations in Almaty.
The Champagne company (restaurant and wine shop) is participating in our project, where the continuation of the E. Friedlin exhibition "The Game of Shadows" is taking place. We celebrate the anniversary at 2 venues, and Champagne will also host master classes by the famous artist and meetings with the public. Follow the ads on our social networks.
One day in the early 2000s, a catalog of Pavlodar artists was brought to me and I drew attention to the works of the then young artist Evgeny Fridlin. He stood out from all his fellow countrymen in some way and immediately had an amazing effect on me. His painting impressed me and I began to think about organizing his exhibition in Alma Ata. And so it happened – in 2006, we held an exhibition in the Ular gallery at the House of Scientists of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and since then our friendship has begun.
I supported the artist at first and replenished my collection with his works, which I am doing now, with pleasure, after 20 years of collaboration. All galleries have their favorites – artists who actively exhibit and participate in various projects. Fridlin and I traveled to different countries and Fairs, speaking and representing our native Kazakhstan, sometimes the only ones from all the CIS countries. The effect was amazing, because so far not many people know about Kazakh art, and we tried to show interesting, the best works that reveal our world.
There is another important point of our friendship – everyone is doing their own thing. Friedlin creates works, and Markovich presents and produces. No one interferes with each other, despite the development of technology and other temptations. This is very important in today's world, where most agreements are not respected and are violated everywhere.
The artist Evgeny Fridlin can serve as a positive example for other artists, for which, of course, many thanks to him!
This year we decided to celebrate this anniversary date of cooperation with a new, unique exhibition dedicated to our beloved city of Almaty, to show the artist's new painting experiments and celebrate my personal anniversary in the fall – hence the name of the exhibition – U2 (Double Anniversary). Although there is no doubt that at the opening day you will definitely hear the musical compositions of this unique rock band with worldwide fame.
U2 is a rock band from Dublin, Ireland. U2 was formed in 1976, and the band's albums have sold over 170 million copies. As of 2023, they have won twenty—two Grammy Awards, more than any other band in the world.
In the 1990s, they responded with the Achtung Baby album and the grandiose Zoo TV show to the revolution in alternative and dance music, criticism of themselves and what, in their opinion, was stagnation in music. At that time, they were constantly experimenting, exploring various musical directions.
U2 musicians are also known for their charity work. Both together and individually, the band members have been collaborating with musicians, celebrities, and politicians on issues related to disease, poverty, and injustice in Africa, Asia, and Europe since the early '80s.
We invite you to the opening on April 8 at 18:30/2026
